Reading List For A Zen AF Life

I used to hate reading. I mean, really hate reading.

And actually, I still don’t love reading novels. I’m good for maybe one fiction book a year during a beach vacation, but that’s about it. Any other time, you can find me reading non fiction. And I actually really love it now.

I’m a sucker for self-help-y type books, nutrition and diet books, an occasional biography or autobiography (has anyone else already pre-ordered Flea’s new book??  (Just me?) plus anything on living a healthier lifestyle.

I’m always looking for my next read and I have gotten a lot of great recommendations from other bloggers and friends. So, I thought I would share what I have been reading with you.

It’s hard finding the time during the day to read, so I tried an audio book for the first time….and I am HOOKED! I love being able to listen while I am in my car, doing a workout, or cleaning my house. It’s a game changer. You can try it out now with 2 free audiobooks on Audible.

Zen AF Reading List

I hope you find something here that you can add to your reading list. And PLEASE send me some other suggestions — what other books have you read that I should check out? Comment below!

1. Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

Girl Wash Your Face

If you have been living under a rock and haven’t read this yet, do it now. This is also a good one to listen to on Audible. Rachel takes you through some of the common lies we all tell ourselves. Then she offers tips to help you get out of your own way to live your best life.

2. Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

Girl Stop Apologizing

Coming March 2019 (So, obviously I haven’t read this but based on Girl, Wash Your Face, I assume this one will be awesome too)

Pre-Order: Print | Kindle | Audiobook

3. You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero

You Are A Badass

I love any book that has a curse word in the title. This is a good one to help you remember that you can be awesome at life.

4. Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert

Big Magic

I actually read this BEFORE I ever read Eat, Pray, Love! (I know, I’m behind the times). I love this the slightly trippy vibe to this read, without being over the top. Big Magic happens in life, you just need to look for it.

5. The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin

The Happiness Project

You have to make your own happiness. It’s up to you and no one else. This was a fun read about one woman’s journey to explore different ways to increase her happiness and well being.

6. The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo

The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Cluttered House = Cluttered Mind.

I love the author’s technique for deciding what to keep around and what to ditch — yes, she can get a little goofy at times, but overall it’s a great method. Word of warning: after reading this book, I gave away 90% of the clothes I owned then had to buy new things! You might want to set aside a shopping budget along with purchasing the book!

7. Minimalism: Live A Meaningful Life by Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus

Minimalism

I’m not saying you need to be a minimalist. I’m not, but I love the principals these guys talk about. There is definitely something to the fact that clearing the clutter helps clear your mind so you can focus on what’s really important. I have definitely reduced the clutter in my house significantly since I discovered this book. If you want to know more, check out my experience with the Minimalism Challenge!

8. Namaslay by Candace Moore

Namaslay

This book is part yoga guide and part motivational story.  The author explains yoga and meditation without being too “woo woo”.  Plus, #bodygoals.

9. The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor

Happiness Advantage

Does success lead to happiness or is it the other way around. Another positive read about taking control and creating your own happiness.

  1. Carrie @ Season It Already!

I love audiobooks! I’ve “read” most of these and have them on my TBR pile. I listened to Girl Wash Your Face twice before I even knew it had a cult following. 🙂

I usually check out audiobooks on CD at the library for my car or download them from library on my phone so I can put my earbuds in and listen to them when I’m cleaning or working out.

I did just put The Happiness Advantage on hold at the library because I’m having issues keeping up at work and I need a boost. 🙂

And I didn’t know Flea had a book out – unfortunately, my library doesn’t seem to carry it, so I may have to pick it up!

    Thanks for the recs!

Carrie, that’s a great idea to look for audiobooks at the library! I don’t know why I never thought about that. Flea’s book comes out Nov 27 in case you were wondering…but seriously, I pre-ordered it on Amazon! Can’t wait!
