Why Is A Mirrorless Camera Great For Traveling?

A mirrorless camera is great for traveling because they are more compact and lighter than traditional DSLR cameras. That’s because they don’t have a reflex mirror, which is found in DSLRs. This mirror reflects light up to the optical viewfinder of a DSLR, but in a mirrorless camera the imaging sensor is exposed to light all the time. This is also what gives you a digital preview of your image.

Canon EOS M100: A Great Mirrorless Camera For Travel

I chose the Canon EOS M100 mirrorless camera for a few simple reasons:

  1. It’s easy to use — even for a beginner!
  2. It’s relatively inexpensive.
  3. It’s lightweight and easy to travel with.

The Canon EOS M100 is the perfect mirrorless camera for travel or for someone looking to make a step up from a cell phone camera. It’s easy enough to use that you can operate it right out of the box with no training, but there are enough features that you can grow with it as you enhance your photography skills.

Benefits of the Canon EOS M100 Mirrorless Camera

The Canon EOS M100 is at a relatively low price point for mirrorless cameras which makes it much more accessible for everyone. Plus, if you’re just getting started, you probably don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on a camera that you don’t know how to use.

The lightweight, compact design of the Canon EOS M100 is perfect if you love to travel! No one wants to lug around a heavy camera while sightseeing — but this camera is light enough to not be a bother. I used it all over Europe during my recent Mediterranean cruise and it was perfect. (Plus it fit nicely inside my travel purse).

Thumb Grip on the Canon EOS M100

Before I purchased this camera I read lots of reviews online. One complaint that kept coming up was that the thumb grip wasn’t substantial enough. I was a little worried but bought the camera anyway.

I have had ZERO problems with the thumb grip — it gives me plenty of hold. But if you get the camera home and decide that you want a more substantial grip, you can purchase a sleeve that has a thumb grip…plus it comes in fun colors!

How is the battery life for this? I’m curious how well the battery holds up with just pictures, using video, of it’s connected to WiFi/Bluetooth, and such as these things are known to typically drain batteries pretty quickly. Is there an option to turn off the WiFi/Bluetooth features?

      Hi Jude,
The battery life is ok…not excellent. If I’m going to be out all day, I bring a backup battery with me. I believe you just connect the WiFi once you are transferring pictures.
