Marriott Rewards – Elite Status

You are currently viewing Marriott Rewards – Elite Status

Last week,  I wrote about how to earn and use Marriott Rewards points.  In this post, I will cover elite status in the Marriott Rewards program.

3 Levels of Elite Membership

There are 3 levels of elite membership.  Your level is based on your number of qualifying nights in a calendar year.  Marriott defines a qualifying night as “any night stayed in the current calendar year at a participating hotel at an eligible rate and paid for by the member.”

Oceanview Room at Marriott Stanton South Beach
We were upgraded to a nice ocean view room and had lounge access for breakfast and snacks at the Marriott Stanton South Beach – thanks to my Gold Elite Status!

Rollover Nights

Marriott Rewards also includes rollover nights towards elite status.  This makes it a little easier to achieve status.  Any qualifying nights you have stayed over your current elite level will rollover to the next year.  For example, Silver Elite Status requires 10 qualifying nights.  If you have Silver status and stayed 15 nights in 2016, you would get 5 rollover nights that will count towards status in 2017.

Gaining Status Without Staying a Single Night

I love hotel status, but I generally don’t have enough paid hotel nights to earn anything meaningful on my own.  However, it’s possible to have status just by holding the right credit card!

Marriott Rewards Credit Card – Having this card gives you automatic Silver Elite Status as long as you are a card member in good standing

American Express Platinum – This card comes with automatic Hilton Honors and Starwood Preferred Guest Gold Status.  Since Starwood is now a part of Marriott all you need to do is link your accounts and your status will be matched instantly!
