Coral Paradise Resort Bonaire [Dive Resort Review]

My husband and I recently took a week-long trip to Bonaire, an island municipality of the Netherlands that lies in the southern Caribbean about 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela. It’s part of the ABC Islands, along with Aruba and Curacao.

The primary reason we chose Bonaire was that we wanted to try shore diving, and Bonaire is the best shore diving location in the world.

This was a first for us as my husband did most of the planning. I usually know every detail of a trip and he just shows up with a smile. This time it was the other way around. In case you were wondering, yes I had total control freak anxiety going on a vacation where I had done almost no planning!

He chose Coral Paradise Resort because of their stellar ratings on Trip Advisor and because they cater to scuba divers. We booked a dive package and they took care of everything — our car rental, STINAPA tags, airport transportation, and tank rentals.

Here’s the full scoop on the Coral Paradise Resort Bonaire.

A Review of the Coral Paradise Resort Bonaire

The Coral Paradise Resort Bonaire is a small, boutique hotel featuring 8 guest rooms. It’s centrally located on the island, so it’s easy to get where ever you want to go. The downside is that it’s not beachfront so there is no ocean view.

This isn’t the type of hotel I usually book — I’m a sucker for a big, fancy resort! But, my husband booked this and frankly, there are no big, fancy resorts on Bonaire.

Coral Paradise Resort Amenities

We were greeted by the owners and manager and offered a tour of the room and a cold drink. Honestly, they are what make this hotel. We got lots of great advice from Louise, the resort manager, about things to do on the island, dive sites, and even where the grocery stores were.

We also loved talking about our dives with Vincent. He helped us identify some of the creatures we saw and gave us some advice about other dive locations.

They arranged our truck rental and coordinated tank rentals with a local dive shop. We were picked up at the airport (pickup was included in our package) and our truck was waiting at the resort for us.

They also provided us with a local cell phone in case we needed to get in touch with them.

Rooms at the Coral Paradise Resort Bonaire

The resort isn’t a luxury hotel, but it has everything you need for a laid back dive trip. Each of the 8 guest rooms comes equipped with a full kitchen and patio or balcony. The bathroom is small but functional. The rooms are a good size, but fairly basic.

Our balcony at Coral Paradise overlooked the pool area.

The patio (1st floor rooms) or balcony (2nd floor rooms) is very spacious and a lovely spot to relax in the afternoon after diving.

Coral Paradise Resort Amenities:

  • Maid service on the weekdays
  • Storage for dive equipment

Dive Amenities at Coral Paradise Resort Bonaire

We booked a package through Coral Paradise Resort that included truck rental and unlimited tanks for diving. The tanks were delivered by the dive shop each morning.

They offer a convenient rinse tank to clean off your gear each day, and each room has a locker to store all of your other gear. These amenities made diving every day very easy.

What I Loved about Coral Paradise Resort

  • Vincent, Caroline, and Louise are wonderful and will help you with anything you need!
  • The scuba lockers and tank drop off make diving a breeze. It was so great to have a spot to store all of our equipment each night.
  • The large balcony on our room was a great spot to relax after a long dive.
  • The resort has a great location, close to restaurants, dive sites and other things to do on the island.

What I Didn’t Love about Coral Paradise Resort

  • It’s not a luxury hotel. They don’t claim to be so I can’t fault them for this, but if you are looking for luxury, this isn’t the place for you.
  • It doesn’t have an ocean view.

Can You Use Hotel Points To Stay On Bonaire?

There is a Courtyard Marriott on the island, but that’s the only chain type hotel that you could book with points. The location wasn’t awesome as it was across the street from the airport. This is actually a time when I would recommend going for one of the smaller, boutique hotels on the island.

However, if you have lots of Marriott Bonvoy points, you can stay at the Courtyard Bonaire Dive Resort for only 12,500 points per night. This hotel goes for about $232 per night including taxes giving you a 1.85 cents per point value, which is pretty good for Marriott points.

It’s not a bad redemption if you choose to go that route.

Final Thoughts

Bonaire is a great little spot in the Caribbean ABC Island chain that is known for its top-notch shore diving.

The Coral Paradise Resort caters to scuba divers so it’s a great place to stay when you’re in Bonaire to dive. While this isn’t a luxury hotel, the personalized service and scuba diving services/amenities offered at Coral Paradise make it a top contender in Bonaire.
