What Is The Best Credit Card To Earn Hyatt Points?

Hotel rewards programs can sometimes be tricky, and sometimes the best way to earn points for a particular hotel isn’t always clear.  I’m here to break it all down for you.  I previously wrote about the best credit card to earn Marriott points.  Now it’s Hyatt’s turn.  So, what is the best credit card to earn Hyatt Points?

What Is The Best Credit Card To Earn Hyatt Points?

World of Hyatt is the loyalty program for the Hyatt brand of hotels.  You can earn 5 Base Points for every eligible dollar spent on qualifying stays as well as hotel dining and spa at most of the brands in the Hyatt portfolio (as of now, Mirival is not participating in the World of Hyatt program).  However, the way to really supercharge your World of Hyatt points earnings is to have the right credit card in your wallet.

So, Which One Is The Best?

As you can see, the Hyatt credit card’s largest bonus category is at Hyatt hotels.  You will earn 3x points on room rates, dining and spa.  However, the Chase Sapphire Reserve earns 3x points on ALL travel and dining!  These points transfer 1:1 to Hyatt.  The Chase Ink Business Preferred also earns 3x points on travel as well as things like internet, phone and cable.  The Chase Sapphire Preferred earns 2x points on travel and dining, so it matches the Hyatt card on those categories except for purchases at Hyatt.

If you own a business, the best credit card to earn Hyatt points is the Chase Ink Business Preferred.

If you don’t own a business, the best credit card to earn Hyatt points is the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

If you don’t own a business and don’t want a card with a $450 fee, the best credit card to earn Hyatt points is the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

I really like the Chase Ultimate Rewards cards for Hyatt points, because you can also transfer them to other hotels and airlines if your plans change!  Chase points transfer to partners like Marriott, Southwest and United airlines among others.  I would rather park my points in Chase where they still have some flexibility than to have a mound of Hyatt points that can only be used at Hyatt.  They transfer instantly to Hyatt so you can just transfer as you need them.

Is There Any Reason To Get The Hyatt Credit Card?

The Hyatt credit card isn’t a bad card, but it’s not the best card for earning Hyatt points.  If you do enjoy Hyatt hotels, it’s a good one to have in your wallet for the annual free night.  You can easily get more value out of that than the $75 annual fee.  The signup bonus of 2 free nights at any Hyatt in the world is great if you are planning a stay at a very expensive property!  I had plans to use mine at the $500+ per night Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa.  Unfortunately, that trip never happened, so now I will be using them at the Park Hyatt Chicago (another $500+ night place).

You are now armed with the knowledge to go out and earn mega Hyatt points.  Happy Travels!
