Increased Offer On The IHG Rewards Club Credit Card

You are currently viewing Increased Offer On The IHG Rewards Club Credit Card

There is an increased offer on the IHG Rewards Club credit card!  This is great news if you have been eyeing this card, or if you are in the market for some more hotel points.  The current 80,000 point bonus is 20,000 higher than the usual bonus.  One great thing about this card for seasoned miles and points collectors is that this card is NOT included in Chase’s 5/24 rule (meaning if you have opened 5 or more credit cards in the last 24 months you will most likely not be approved).

There is not a published end date for this offer, so I expect it to be active for a while. However,  it could be pulled at any time so once you decide to get the card, pull the trigger to make sure you receive this higher bonus.

What Can You Do With IHG Points?

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) includes over 5,000 properties in almost 100 countries within 12 different brands.  While many of their properties lean towards budget travel, there are also some high end hotels in their portfolio.  This is a popular hotel chain among points and miles enthusiasts because of promotions like PointBreaks (where select hotels rooms are only 5,000 points a night) and the free night that comes with the co-branded credit card!

How Much Is This Bonus Worth?

According to The Points Guy’s monthly valuations, IHG points are worth about .7 cents each.  That means, the 80,000 point bonus is worth about $560.  However, depending on how you use your points, they can be worth more or less.  If you are able to take advantage of IHG’s Point Breaks deals for 5,000 points a night, this bonus could mean 16 FREE Nights!  That’s an incredible deal!  But, on the other end of the spectrum, you could use your points for 2 nights at the Holiday Inn Express Kailua-Kona in Hawaii.  I found availability in July for $189 or 40,000 points per night.  So, after adding in taxes you would be getting $428.08 in value ($214.04 per night including taxes).  That’s less than the value you “should” get for your points.

But, my philosophy is if the points will help you book a hotel room that you couldn’t otherwise book then it’s a good deal.  Use your points however they will work best for you and your family.

Should You Take Advantage Of This Offer?

So, the question really is should you take advantage of this increased offer on the IHG Rewards Club credit card?  That all depends on your travel goals and where you are in the miles and points game.

If you are a relative newbie to collecting miles and points, I would skip this for now.  There are other more valuable cards I would go after first.  If you typically stay at IHG brand hotels, then this card is probably a smart choice.  If you are a seasoned miles and points vet and this card isn’t in your wallet, it might be a good time to go for it as it is not affected by Chase’s 5/24 rule.

I don’t have this card yet but it’s on my radar with this increased bonus.  Are you planning on getting this card?  Where will it take you?

I love IHG! I’ve not managed to earn an awful lot of points so far but when it comes to savings, anything will do! haa

Yep, every little bit helps – it really can add up!

Wow! That sounds like a great deal. I’d love to get my hands on one of these reward cards! Hopefully, IHG expands to Taiwan one day!

Sounds great! I wish we had this kind of rewards programmes here in Europe, it would be so handy!

    1. Katie @ ZenLifeandTravel

Yeah, it’s too bad these are usually only US based!

We really need to start looking into a rewards program. We travel so much, we could use a discount here and there. We will do our research.

    1. Katie @ ZenLifeandTravel

The discounts you can get are pretty amazing. I rarely pay for a hotel room anymore. Even if you just stick with one program, there are many benefits to be had.

Sounds like a really great offer, but unfortunately I live in Europe, so I can not join it.

    1. Katie @ ZenLifeandTravel

Yeah, unfortunately these things tend to be US based only. Sorry to get your hopes up : )

  6. This was interesting since I was looking into getting a new card anyway. It is hard to decide which one to go for. I think one thing I really want from the card is the “no foreign transaction fee” because money going for that seems like a waste. Thanks for sharing this.

That is quite a deal. I really should take advantage of some of the programs out there available to travelers like this.

We stay at IHG and find their reward program really great. Free room nights and room upgrades are all real payoffs with this membership. Would recommend it to everyone.

This looks promising; i will read your other articles on IHG cards and I will get one. Thanks.
